Expertly crafted from premium-grade Black Basalt, this surround showcases a deep charcoal tone enriched with natural mineral textures, resulting in a sleek yet organic aesthetic that grounds any living space. Celebrated for its durability, density, and excellent heat resistance, Black Basalt delivers both beauty and long-lasting performance—making it a perfect choice for modern, industrial, and transitional interiors.
Each surround is meticulously hand-finished to enhance the stone’s naturally smooth surface while preserving the unique character of the material. The result is a striking architectural focal point that introduces depth, warmth, and timeless sophistication into any residential or commercial setting. More than a functional feature, this surround serves as a bold design statement that elevates the overall atmosphere of your space.
Offered in two sizes with bespoke customization available.
The Cornish design cut is defined by its understated elegance and gentle architectural detailing. Inspired by traditional Cornish craftsmanship, this style features softly moulded edges, subtle stepped profiles, and clean, balanced lines that create a refined yet welcoming aesthetic. The design avoids excessive ornamentation, instead focusing on harmonious proportions and a timeless silhouette that suits both period homes and contemporary interiors. Its classic shaping adds depth and character to the fireplace while maintaining a restrained, sophisticated appearance that complements a wide range of materials and décor styles.
Please refer to the technical drawing sheet included with the product images. It provides full dimensions, including overall surround size, depth, shelf measurements, and hearth specifications—where applicable.
We offer a fully bespoke service, allowing you to customise your Black Basalt surround to your precise requirements. If our standard sizes don’t suit your space, please get in touch, our team will be happy to discuss made-to-measure options.
All bespoke surrounds are fabricated here in the UK, with a typical lead time of 2–3 weeks from the point of order.
As with all natural stone products, Black Basalt features inherent variations that contribute to its unique character. These natural features include:
* Pitting – Small surface indentations and tiny holes formed during the cooling of volcanic lava.
* Veining – Subtle mineral lines that add depth, movement, and textural richness.
* White Flecks – Natural inclusions created during the stone’s geological formation.
These characteristics are not defects—they are part of the authentic geological identity of basalt and are present throughout all our batches. Each surround is unique, offering a distinctive finish that synthetic or manufactured materials simply cannot replicate.
