Granite is an intrusive igneous rock that formed millions of years ago as molten magma 

slowly cooled and crystallised deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Because this geological 

process occurred on a global scale during periods of intense tectonic activity, granite 

deposits can now be found throughout the world.​

Many granite varieties are named after the locations where they are quarried. For example, 

Indian Jet Black is named after its origin in southern India. This naming convention applies 

to many other granite types sourced from different regions around the globe. 

Quartz is an engineered stone made from natural quartz crystals combined with resins and 

pigments. This manufacturing process creates a durable, non-porous surface available in a 

wide variety of colours, patterns, and finishes.​

Quartz is one of the most popular worktop materials due to its durability, low maintenance 

requirements, stain resistance, and design versatility.

Both granite and quartz are available in 20mm and 30mm thicknesses. However, 20mm is 

generally considered the standard, which you can upgrade to 30mm if you prefer a thicker 

look. 

Quartz is not suitable for outdoor kitchens or barbecues because prolonged exposure to UV 

light can affect the resins within the material, potentially causing fading or discolouration.​

​Granite is a natural stone and does not contain UV-sensitive resins, making it an excellent 

choice for outdoor applications. 

Although quartz can withstand a certain amount of heat, hot pans should not be placed 

directly on quartz surfaces. The resins used in quartz can begin to soften at elevated 

temperatures, potentially causing permanent damage. Always use heat-resistant mats or 

trivets.​

​Granite is highly heat resistant and can withstand much higher temperatures than quartz. 

However, we still recommend using trivets or heat-resistant mats to protect the surface and 

preserve its appearance. 

There is no straightforward answer to this question. The cost of quartz and granite can be 

very similar and varies depending on the material selected, design, availability, and 

manufacturer. Both materials are available across a wide range of price points. 

Yes. Granite is a natural stone and should be sealed periodically to maintain its resistance to 

stains and moisture. Quartz does not require sealing because it is non-porous. 

Both materials are extremely durable and suitable for everyday kitchen use. Quartz offers 

excellent stain resistance and requires very little maintenance, while granite provides 

superior heat resistance and a unique natural appearance. 

This depends on the size and layout of your kitchen, as well as the dimensions of the chosen 

material. We always aim to minimise joints, but some projects require them to ensure safe 

transportation, installation, and long-term structural integrity. 

Most kitchen worktop installations are completed within a single day. Once templating has 

been carried out and the material has been approved, installation is typically scheduled 

within 7–10 days, subject to material availability and workload.
